Helping Oneself is a comprehensive document aimed at supporting movement coaches and practitioners in their attempts to navigate the turbulent waters of a young culture.

The aim of this document is to provide both coaches and practitioners information and guidance with regards to a personal practice. I cover such details as Progression, Programming, Rep/Set Schemes, Theoretical Ideas, Reflective Practices and more. The document is dense and has many pages of writing - if you are anything like me then this is a tough task to take in all at once. Therefore I would propose to read and consume the programming information in small chunks. Focus on a specific part of interest, apply it and after some time move to a new part. Reading and re-reading information is always usful, we change like the wind when practice is alive, so the person reading this currently will be a different person than the one who reads this in a few weeks or months.

I also then propose that you take each of the following 3 sections and work on them one by one.

Programming Principles

Set the base

Broaden the base

Individuate the base

Set aim with intention, and adapt accordingly. I wish you all the best in your practice, whether that be alone, in a group or leading others.

*The idea stemmed from a 12 week course I previously ran with a small group of movement coaches, over the lockdown in 2020. From there I refined the course, and again shared it with a different small group of coaches and practitioners within the movement sphere. After this I then refined it further after gaining critical feedback from the groups.
